best proxy website

Sorry to be dumb! but what is a proxy?

Its a site that allows bypassing of filters (for example at work or at school) Its like a redirect service.

Folks at work should use proxies with extreme care - you could lose your job over use of one...

I run our computer network down at the local high school and the kids all hate me as I have Bebo & all the other social networking sites blocked out. They use proxies to get around our lockouts - when I catch them I block the proxy site and turn their internet access off for a month

Ive set my filtering terms up very carefully and they get very annoyed when their carefully harvested sites they find at home dont work on our system

Ive got some lovely monitoring tools and can watch their screens remotely and lock out sites in real time

Proxies can have a useful function too.

As you masy knowe many uk radio channels are now geo locked so that only folks with uk based ip's can listen to their web streams. So if Johnny Foreigner finds a uk based proxy he can listen to Little Snoring FM from Adelaide should he so wish.

(The geo locking software will identify the UK proxy address not the Adelaide original address)

Proxies can also be used for nefarious purposes of course.... I'll leave it to your imagination to think up some!

BTW if any of my pupils are reading this - let me point out I subscribe to the same proxy lists that you do!

I use TOR its pretty good or there is another one from garden networks that is good also.

I find web based ones to slow.

I have just joined proxy world, asked for help to set up a proxy, can anyone guide me to how to do it in plain easy language.

I have been banned by a pro Murdoch site for,well anti Sky comments they called it,and would just love to scan their website for info,without joining up sort of thing.Any help appreciated.
