regardless of the config, a mac is still a mac.

changing the configs wont affect how many macs you sniff its irrelevant, when you don't use the bruteforce method as it now doesn't work all that happens is dhcp sniffer sits there listening to the network for DHCP offers as these are broadcast packets that all CM's on the network will here but the only one that does anything with it is the CM that requested a ip address as the offer packet is targetted at its mac address, what DHCP sniffer does is record those replies with the boot file that it heres. So you are reliant on subbed users switching there modems on and asking for an ip address, the ones that you get back with no bootfile are STB's signing onto the network so it is just a case of waiting for legit users to turn there modems on so you can sniff the reply packets they get

Something is deffo happening.
I was running the business config by having the modem grab it from the TFTP every time it boots, as autoserve was not working for me. Net stopped working and modem kept getting stuck at IP Complete. I tried loads of other configs by leaving the IP field blank and just entering the config name, and the same thing was happening, just sticking at IP Complete. So I thought **** it, I'll try to autoserve. Now this stopped working for me ages ago, so I selected the business config that I had uploaded to the modem previously and with much pessimism I clicked the save and reboot button, and hey presto! It worked! |
