Default NTL 200 (silver) modem

Hi guys Ive been given this modem from a friend who says it used to work but now wont come online and the guy who sold him the modem has now moved away so I said would try..something Ive never done before but we have to start somewhere anyways.

the status page(192.168.100.1) displays regular firmware from what I can gather,ie it has no extra options for editing mac address etc, also I tried to connect to telnet via the rj45 cable and it said cannot connect. (I had changed my nic address to 192.168.100.10 1st.)
I have been reading through tutorials all morning and from what I can understand If the flash chip ends in BTC-90 then it cannot be flashed/gotten online at all? as this modem has that chip
my friend says it used to be a cloned modem which is what puzzles me. does this mean i cannot update the mac for a working mac(which i already have)? or have i completely overlooked something.

also lastly, assuming there Is something I can do to get this back up and running, I would need from what im reading a max232 adaptor or would a jtag cable do the same thing? as i can borrow a jtag but I would need to buy a max232 which isnt a problem really if it will work it just means I would need to wait for delivery a few days.

thanks for any help you guys can give me Im a complete noob I know but I do learn fast-ish lol
If there is any more info I need to supply please advise me of it and i will post it accordingly

if you have a look at the sigma 2008 tut for the ambit 200 you will see there is two little solder points it tells you to join together to debrick with blackcat.. are these joined on your modem? also, is there a 10pin header on it?

Ok I looked at the guide and no the solder points are not joined (assumably where its telling me to use masking tape..)
directly above that I have the 10 pin header yes. I guess its time to get out the soldering iron lol

Nah probably won't be needed as it's not bricked and has been modded.

Try browsing to 192.168.100.1:1337 , 192.168.100.1:1338 and 192.168.100.1:666

One of em should work. It's possible if you can get into one of these addresses, the trader has simply disabled telnet via the GUI.

Failing this, plug in a MAX232 adaptor and see what you get in hyperterminal / putty
