Default Windows 7 MC + DVBVIewer + DVB Link . Finally...cable TV within Media Centre

Hi, All
Im back on the forum after a while away heloooooo
I had a nice Mediaportal affair but I eventually went back to my Wife (Vista Media Centre) with a bit of DVB dream on the side. Mediaportal was ace, no question but there was the odd glitch (particularly with recordings) that got on my nerves.
99% of my viewing is freeview anyway, So VMC is fine for all that
...so I when I heard of DVB Link/ DVB dream, I gave it a go, only to become thouroughly disappointed...
On to yesterday. I had heard good things about DVB Viewer/ DVB Link and it was reported to work on Win 7 so I gave it a go
1. BOUGHT (yes, I know) DVBViewer for 15Euros
2. Downloaded DVB link for DVBViewer APP
1. DVBViewer installed without a hitch and even has UK cable tranny files..VPlug installed in the usual way into Plugins
2. DVB Link came with great instructions (much better than the ones supplied with the DVB Dream link app) and installed fine
Followed instructions and was up and Running with DVB C/ DVB T (x2) Within Windows 7 MC in no time. You can Even Assign the Proper Guide listings by assigning the Media Centre derived ones so they download in the usual way as DVB-T

NB I came unstuck only once..if you are going to have a go DONT RESTART THE SERVER BEFORE ASSIGNING CHANNELS IN DVBVIEWER or you will get a DVBVIEWER has encountered a prob etc etc etc
NEXT: Get another cable card and see if dual works
NB Channel swiching not bad
NB BBC HD a bit wobbly..looking into it.

if you don't mind me asking what kind of problems did you have with dvb dream? I've been using dvblink/dvbdream for awhile and been quite happy so far

I could never get channel change working properly. Media Centre would display DVB dream's channel ok, but wouldnt control the change.

Beari in mind a lot of that may be down to me, of course

Ive been running the same setup as you for a while now. Works great. Certainly cheaper than the card and came route.

Just wondering, did anyone try adding a DVB-S2 to this setup. I can use one or the other but not both.? (VMC+DVBviewer+DVBlink)

can you tell me what drivers you are using for w7 x64 (link if possible)
does this work without the additional freeview dvbt card being plugged in at the same time to get mc recognize it as a dvbc card
thanks

I will pm you the drivers m8.

You dont need a dvb-t. You can sync most of the channels with the microsoft guide listings. Works a treat.

What you need to do is:

1. Install the drivers
2. Install dvbviewer( im using ver. 4.0)
3. Scan your channels with the appropriate transponder
4. Install and configure vplug
5. Download dvblink for dvbviewer
6. Carefully follow the dvblink installation instructions.
