Hes quids in:

If Colin Kenwrick of the Berkley Arms in Worcester had taken out a commercial package with BSkyB it would have cost around £4,000.

But instead the landlord purchased a satellite dish and set top box from Dreambox, a Coventry based firm for just £1,595.
This system is able to pick up the Albanian TV channel, DigitAlb.
This channel is not permitted to broadcast outside of the country and yet in the Berkley Arms it was there for all to see, including officers from the Media Protection Service.
Colin Kenwrick and his son Richard were fined a total of £2065 for the offence.

2065+1595=3660

Just like the people that don't buy a TV license - if you get away with it for a Year, then get a £100 fine, you're quids in

You will have to be hiding for 10 years as the fine is £1000

Wasn't there a "test case" bouncing back and forth between the High Court and the Euro Courts? From what I remember, a female licensee bought and paid for equipment to pick up channels from ?Greece? with a legal subscription and duly showed live games on Saturday afternoons.

Her defence was that the kit was obtained within the EU perfectly legally, whereas the prosecution was arguing that she should not have been able to buy the stuff in the first place or some such. Anyone remember it?

As a slight aside, even with Sky's commercial package (which is based IIRC on the ratable value of the property) you still can't see a live game at 3pm on a Saturday, so it's not as if they are losing out!

I think the company selling him the kit also made a hudge killing, £1500.00 for the kit?? If you bought the official kaon hd receiver + gold package @ £600.00 that still means £900.00 for a dish and installation

The difference is that Albania is not an EU country, so using it in a commercial sense will land one in trouble.

However, at this time, The use European packages such as those from Greece are currently awaiting a decision as to whether it is allowed or not.

Using DigitalB in ones own home for personal use is OK though, I am led to believe.
