Ok cool i see. Your modem is locking the downstream and upstream successfully but is not being assigned an IP via DHCP. There are two possible causes of this: 1) Due to incorrect settings your modem has been detected as a clone and your HFC MAC is now blacklisted (most likely) 2) Your modem is locking the incorrect downstream frequency for your area (less likely). Ok lets fix your settings 1st: Untick the autoserve enabled checkbox. Change your BPI setting dropdown box to docsis 1.0. Your MAC addresses are very wrong. Valid MAC addresses for VM modems are: 00:14* 00:0E* 00:28* 00: D0* 00:0C is invalid and is for a STB or an AOL modem or something. So look at your list of MACS and pick one from the valid list of MACS above and enter that as your HFC MAC. Now your Ethernet MAC can be calculated by adding 6 in HEX to your HFC MAC. USB MAC = HFC MAC -1. Serial = HFC MAC without the :'s Google will tell you how to perform arithmetic in HEX, or there is a MAC calculator by my mate Irfan available at UGM. Cross your fingers and give that a try mate. sr20 |

Thanks for that SR20.
Overnight I have been tryign to figure out what is happening and eventually just before 6am this morning I have got it working. After hours and hours trying different macs on it it suddenly pays off. Overnight I got a friend of mine to give me a list of new macs. He lives about 3-4 miles away from me. I didn't think they would work but I put in the 3rd on and hey presto all the LEDs on the modem stayed on and I got online with it. I put the new mac into the HFC Mac box and deleted the Ethernet Mac, USB Mac and the serial number, then hit save and reboot modem. The Ethernet, USB Macs and Serial numbers all picked up automatically. So there we go back online with it at last and I can put my BT hub back in its box. I have the config file still as nothing and force config unticked. Can I just say a bit thankyou to SR30 and also to the other users who have contributed to this post. Thanks for all your help guys, much appreciated. Best Wishes Jay-J |
