Default set up modem

afternoon guys, i have just had a modem come to me its already modded. but gone off line. This is the firmware thats on it.SIGMA-X Version 1.06 RC4 BETA1

when i put my mac address into it and the serial number in. the modem connects fine. But if i use the sniffer i get the mac address but no serial number. If i just put the mac in it dont work.

Is there some thing i have missed or have i done something wrong?

Obviously i dont wana give the modem back working with my address!

Thanks Guys

what i dont understand is that it will work when i put my own mac address and serial number in. thats all i changed everything else is how it come to me. inc the config file. But if i put one in thats been sniffed in the mac address box the modem dont connect.

Also am i right in thinking that the modem wont work with a home network ie 2 comps running on a netgear router??

Should work fine going through a router but don't try that yet till its working.

Your modem won't work if you do a normal sniff from your home address...because the modems it sniffs out are already connected on your network....you can't have 2 identical MACS connected on the same network CMTS (UBR).

You need to either perform a 'bruteforce' sniff (unlikely to work as VM have disabled it now), perform a sniff from an address a few miles away, or trade MACS with someone a few miles away on a different CMTS.
