Angry Bad Signal?

With all the new HD channels just coming on i was looking forward to using my EX7000 HD+ to its full potential, but none of the HD channels work!

I find them all but when i try to watch i just get no picture and screechy sound breaking up, followed by Invalid Data/Scrambled Channel.

Ive noticed a few other channels have done this too since i've owned the box, such as Comedy Central Extra and Sky1.

Is my problem bad signal?

I have a 3.5dB splitter from virgin going to the modem, then another splitter from maplin going to 2 STBs.

Like this:

White Box
|
Splitter - Another splitter - STB1
|***************|
Modem*********STB2

But even going from STB straight to the white box the channels aren't watchable.

Any help/advice is GREATLY appreciated, thanks!

That could be the problem m8, you can try connect the box direct to the feed coming in from outside and see what happens.

Sorry for double post but heres an update that might help diagnose:

The Kryptview downstairs is getting all the channels and they are working fine

So does this mean its the cable running to my box? Or the box itself?

Edit: Typo

With your splitter arrangement you've introduced about 8 to 9db signal loss to your EX7000.. I would try changing your splitter arrangement.. I would put the EX7000 after just one splitter, and the other STB and Modem after the second splitter.. Try this first..

If the EX7000 is upstairs then that means its on the end of a long run of cable I guess.. Is it good quality cable.. You may find you need a signal booster to help it over a long run..

I didnt know cable quality was very important so i just got the £15 for 25m from B&Q

Can you recomend some good quality ~25m cable at a good price?

Like i said though, the channels still didnt work well when i plugged my cable straight into the white box

Im gonna check the cable from end to end now and see if theres a kink or anything

The cable you bought is probably perfectly fine.. Other than double checking the connectors and connections are good I'd not worry about buying more expensive cable.. Does your EX7000 work ok downstairs.. If so then you may need to consider a signal booster to help it along the long run to your upstairs point.

Ok I got it to work downstairs with a signal booster but I had to put the signal booster on VHF and then the UHF channels didn't work (Anything over 200MHz)

Is there a signal booster that can boost VHF and UHF?

CATV Cable TV Amplifiers HDTV Signal Booster 220V NEW on eBay (end time 07-Aug-09 20:30:00 BST)

Would that box work?

It sounds perfect for my needs

Although I dont have one of them, it is the tool for the job, although I dont think you'd want to put your modem or normal VM box behind it as Im thinking them boosters dont have a reverse path, which both modem and subbed Vbox need.. But with your Eurovox it'll be ok..
