I connect my htpc to my tv via hdmi from my graphics card.
my on board sound runs from the mother board to my graphics card using the spdif headers. im trying to find out what codecs peaople are using to get sound from the new hd channels that are out. at the minute im using matroska to get my .mkv files working in vista media centre. haali splitter is also installed. ive tried installing ac3 filter but this hasnt helped. all sd channels work fine with audio and sound im just lost getting sound from the hd channels. which codecs do you guys use? |

ive installed ffdshow but it hasnt changed, the only thing ive noticed is the hd channels have begun to jump.
when i press 'i' and set the fx hd language to visually impaired i get sound. its the only out of the hd ones that lets me do this so im thinking the problem is something to do with dolby digital. has anyone any ideas? |

Just has a thought.
Am assuming the Channels you are talking about ar the VM HD channels. In which case they are broadcast in Mpeg2 and DD, can you get sound if you play a DVD? |

Cyberlink power DVD does HD. You can find it around and it does not need activated just installed for the codecs to be available. NVIDIA codecs I found do not do HD sound.
Often people are downloading and installing many codecs causing issues in the windows registry. There is a great program called filmerit you can get and it will analyse what you have and clean up bad pointers in the registry. I use media portal and Cyberlink power DVD 8 for HD works fine. |

Ok, spent a few hours last night upgrading my Vista 32 HTPC setup to a Windows 7 RC 64 one. Was really hoping the HD channel audio would get sorted by W7, but no such luck. I've just installed FFDShow 64 (assuming as VMC is a 64bit process that's what I'll need the 64bit FFDSHow) and Cyberlink PowerDVD 9 - neither has enabled sound on any of the new HD channels. Curiously, since going Vista to 7, BBC HD is now silent!
![]() Anyone able to throw some light? I'm getting a bit confused by all this.

You are using a floppy right Stu, I never got my TT1501 working under x64 it seems to me the drivers do not work 100% so I went back to x86 for the TT1501 but the floppy works fine under x64.
You can view it but not watch it as it breaks up. I am scanning at present and previously BBC HD was working so I will let u know. Spoke to a friend today and he has CH 4 , MTV etc all working on his subed box so its not testing but available to subs as well. You in my experience are looking at a codec issue if you have HD picture and no sound. Under MP which I use you can select the sound stream not sure about mediacenter but take a look. Will let you kow in 30mins if it all works. |

Cheers mate. Yup - I'm running dual Floppy's (with a C1501 in there too to trick the guide into being the DVB-C one rather than the crap DVB-T). Never managed to get my C1501 picking up any channels on Media Centre either, even once tried the add-on CI daughter card, which turned out to make a very nice paperweight!
This is annoying, father-in-law half a mile away has a V+ box and has the new HD channels up and working with sound, so I know they're live in my area, just silent until I can find the right codec. Ho hum...
