Default irda out of date now?

Do you thiink infrared is out of date now, it doesnt come in new mobiles now and the main drawback was the straight line of connection needed. But i still like it because i only have an irda adaptor

Yes it is pretty much out of date after the introduction of bluetooth but it is still good for mobile phone which don't have Bluetooth option like Sony Ericsson K500i

IrDA stands for Infrared Data Association, but you probably figured that out by now!

it would be nice if it was on some new phones and there was an app for which turned it into a tv/sky remote, it would be handy for when you lose ur main remote down the side of the sofa.
