However i want to install some apps, but i am not sure how to do this. i have downloaded a couple of files with extention .ipa on my PC, but not sure how to put it onto the iPhone. Just connect the iphone to your pc, double click the ipa file and itunes installs it for you.

Easy as 1,2,3 mate.

Sorry mate, new to the iPhone myself and forgot about other methods.

To solve your prob and install apps from your pc, follow method 3.

To download and install directlynfrom the iPhone also follow method 0.

Just out of interest, what version firmware you using? If it's older than 3.0 then it's worthwhile upgrading and rejailbreaking. I'll post a tutorial on how to do that for you in a bit.

To find your firmware revision goto settings, then about on your phone.

Here's a link to the jailbreak method I used mate. Even if you are on 3.0 it might be worth rejailbreaking it just to see how it's done.

The mi-patch doesn't work with 3.0 , you need to use app sync from cydia , Add http:// cydia.hackulo .us in sources, this will allow you to get the appsync program you need. Afterwards tunes will allow you to add all the apps you want.

Tried and tested , jail broke my iphone 3g to 3.0 today.
