Default New banner ads

Just to let everyone know I'm trailing out some banner ads on the site.

While I do get a lot of requests for custom advertising, I'm always concerned about this site (in fact, any I run) becoming too commercialised.

Hence I'm testing out the banner ads as these shouldn't intrude too much, being fairly typical across the web.

However, should anyone have any problems, please do feel free to let me know.

Hmm not on the sat help skin they arent

Anyway I rarely use IE6 nowadays so never see ads of any sort - they got too intrusive on a couple of the forums I use a lot - and when the DS forum started putting ads within the top post on a page it was the last straw - apart from they tended to slow page loading times right down..

They are very unobtrusive aren't they!

I'd suggest relocating them to get some benefit for the site out of them, positioned right at the top they're almost invisible!

Can't believe I'm actually wanting adverts to be more obtrusive!

One of the ads I saw earlier was an intelligence test but VERY annoying, as you don't get your test result unless you stick in your mobile number.

However, putting your number in is a VERY BAD idea, as it seems that you are actually subscribing to something that will COST, and could do it unwittingly.
So beware!

For forums like techwatch I always disable adblock as a click to a site generates revenue and you never know you might find a good site

It also seems that I blocked doubleclick.net a long while ago. enabled it now for the sake of these forums(every little helps )

EDIT: Ive found even if I dont allow doubleclick.net, I can still click in the space where the banner is and I am redirected somewhere, so I dont think theres any harm to blocking doubleclick.
