Default What do you guys think of the...

...LCD DLP/Rear projection TV's, I know there abit old now but I was thinking of getting one as you can get them in HD - 1080P & you can't go wrong with the prices either, Not 100% sure yet to get one or not or just get an LCD TV but I'm not really bothered about the space DLP's take up & sticking an LCD TV up on the wall either.

Has anyone had one before and can you comment on them & the picture quality etc please.

I have to say that I am not a fan of rear projection. I have always found the picture to be lackluster. It certainly doesn't make me go WOW! Having said that I haven't seen too many of them so there may be some good models out there. Ultimately if you are happy with the picture then go for it.

Hi there, Thanks for your post & the info , Will look into the picture quality if I come accross a rear projection TV worth taking a look at, What LCD flat screen would you suggest, I really like the Philips ambilight tv's but haven't seen them up close in action.

Personally, I'd steer clear of rear-projection.
Have you actually seen one? They have pants viewing angles and, I feel, suffer from light pollution issues.

I'd go for a large plasma...
(making sure you have somewhere appropriate to put/view it)

Hi there mate, Yeah i've made my mind up I ain't going to go for the DPL/rear projection TV's, I recently seen one up close & didn't really like the picture quality...But I'm probably going to go for an LCD TV as I've heard negative things about Plasma TV's from friends as they've had them in the past.

P.S. Can anyone recommend good quality LCD TV's that they've had or played around with.

Plasma TVs are better for sport and films with motion. But NEED a decent signal.
I have 3 friends with Plasma systems and, although they are far too big for their 'Legoland' homes , have much better pictures than the 'freeview' LCD equivalents.
There's less pixelation, but at 1920x1080 (true HD), you'll need a GOOD QUALITY signal!
As I said - don't expect mind-blowing pictures from a Freeview signal, unless it's an HD one!
If you are going to use it for gaming/PC or just regular TV viewing, I'd go for the LCD. Possibly?
Let us know, either way.

PS 'Negative things'. Be interested to know what.
PPS DO NOT smoke in a room with a nice new LCD/Plasma TV. It kills the screen. Buy wipes...lots.

Firstly if you are going to view in a shop make sure the signal source is the same on all the TVs you are looking at. As for the reliability of Plasma, they are more susceptible to screen burn, ie gaming or high contrast channel logo. I don't think they have any more of a reliability issue than LCD. Initially Plasma did suffer from screen failure, but this is not such an issue. I personally prefer the picture quality of a plasma TV. There are some excellent LCD tvs like Pioneer and Loewe to name 2 I have experience with but these are not budget TVs. Then you didn't mention screen size or what you are willing to spend.
In conclusion I would pick Plasma over LCD any day. Hope this helps a little.

Yeah I would only use it for normal use and sports, PPV's ect...

Yeah I got told Plasma's tend to heat up alot and get some kind of screen burn thing but can't totally remember & no I dont smoke or anything like that so thats all good

Whats all this signal stuff about will it be a problem for me because I'de be using a HD box with the TV?

Have you used a Philips ambilight LCD TV or know anyone thats played around with it, I'm looking at something between 42" - 52", Not too fussed on the price aslong as its worth what I'm paying for.

Quick question guys...

Is a DLP TV better than a standard CRT TV interms of picture quality?

Have you ever seen when you hook up an LCD TV to a cable box or sky box that isn't a HD box, the quality is really poor?

Does this also happen with a DLP TV as you can also get them in HD?
