Can and original virgin really really smart card be reprogrammed

Only if your really really smart and it does not belong to VM, ie not from the box you are renting.

No the card came with a box I bought of flea bay. Would i need to but anthother smart card to be reprogrammed

Yes, you will need to unlock the card (if it's locked) before programming it.

Also have NTL card if not could you recommend a good card and card reader/writer to buy. Thank you for your help so far

you can take a look here m8,

Infinity USB Phoenix with serial & USB cables BNIB on eBay (end time 25-Aug-09 09:38:35 BST)

This is the 1 I'm using; it does both funcard and OSC cards, there are other similar and cheaper on flybay but they only do OSC card.
But if your card is locked then you would need to get an unlooper to unlock the card, look here;

You can re-do a card but it's pointless if your area has gone N3 as it won't have any affect because the newer N3 cards are totally different.

1st sign of N3. Asian ch gone plus the +1 ch. Moving on to subtle changes and missing channels. However I am in N3 , but still getting some of the 800 cartoon ch - not many just a few. Got MOSC
