hey JamButty, to make it easier again, I'd use a program called "ShellUploader", found here, ShellUploader - File Uploading Shell Extension.
with that, if you're running windows (XP, Vista or 7, so long as it's 32bit), after it's installed, all you need to do is right-click the image(s) you want to post here, choose shelluploader, then imageshack, then when it's uploaded, choose "Hotlink for forums(2)". copy that link and paste it here and boom, you've posted your image here. if you've uploaded a few images, you can scroll through and copy and paste each one in. once you get used to it, it really is the easiest way of all. Thanks fer this mate, but am gonna let Mark upload the stuff for me cos am a lazy get and don't have much time sussing this, just done a test with Mark uploading a test pic I sent him and it's fine. Jam

OK, Just before I hit the hay we all hav to help each other, I'm stuck cos I ain't got a PayPal account and this is were I can't order the parts we are gona need to fire these dead KV's.
I will post the components we need to get em working on me next post. We are Gonna need about 14 caps and 11 diodes to fire these bastards up, once we get them we are sorted, by the way the parts won't cost a fortune, probo about 70p for dearest part, we won't deffo need all the components I have stated but we might as well get them in, in case some-one has a issue with a diffo part on a psu prob, cos not all components I have mentioned will be the same Type. Right going to bed now and will be back on Tuesday night, bear with me if I don't get back before 11:59pm Tuesday cos we might be goin on a quiz night to a pub somwhere in Oldham. Good Afternoon everyone,
whoooops it's morning, so Good Morning everyone. Right I just been lookin' on the older kv board and these are deffo the Diode parts we need to get: We will need the following Diodes if anyone has any Or can get em: 1N 4007 1N 4937-HG 1N 5406-742 FR107-HG UF4007-HG SF34-HG SR560-JF OK when we get these Diodes we are sorted and then it's just a question of getting the caps we're gonna need Once we got all the parts then it's easy from here. Jam ps deffo goin bed now. Gnite Every Body. Last edited by jambutty; 18-08-09 at 02:34 AM. Reason: speeeeeeeeeeeeeeeling yet agin |

Sorry about this but I'm not going to take this any further due to there being at least 5 different types of PSU's used on these units.
I got a job to do on one this morning and psu different again, i.e caps in diffo places, diodes in diffo places and diffo values in components. So this is pointless as not all boxes have the psu in I was going to refer to. Jam |

If you can show how to test components to see if they are faulty it will help people with all sorts of PSU'S not just KV PSU'S. If you get this PSU working you can tell us what component was faulty so people can look at them common components that appear to be faulty quiet often and replace them first.

OK to test a diode: Digital multimeters have a special setting for testing a diode, usually labelled with the diode symbol: First unsolder 1 leg cos u can't accuratly test them in circuit then put the test probes on both legs red probe to the silver ring and black probe to the other leg of the diode you should get a reading on ur dmm screen, then you reverse the probes by putting the black probe to the silver ring and the red probe to the other leg, now you should not have a reading, if this is the case then the diode is good, if the diode reads both ways then it has shorted and needs to be replaced with the same value'd diode: when replacing a diode make sure the silver ring part goes to where you see a white marking on the circuit board because diodes are polarized. OK to test a Capacitor: On the dmm put the setting to a ohms setting, I find it's best to completly take tha cap from the board due to them having short legs, put the probes to the legs and you get a reading, reverse the probes and u should also get a reading, so if cap reads both ways it's good, if only reads 1 way then it's shorted and needs replacing, again make sure when replacing that the cap goes in right holes cos these are also polarized, generally u see a - sign on the cap so put this to the hole with the white mark on. Look for burn marks on resistors some may show scorch marks (replace with same value, any way round cos not polarized), I can't give an accuarte spec on which caps or diodes seem prone to blowing due to has I said that KV psu's differ and I know of 5 diffo psu's, were diodes and caps and other semi conductors differ. So repairing a psu is not that difficult has long has you know how to test them with a Dmm (Digital Multi Meter) that's the key to it, so check caps, diodes and resistors, if your lucky you may see bulging or leakage on some shorted caps but not always the case, a cap may appear to look ok by looking at it BUT may be shorted and you won't know this unless you test it with a DMM. Regards Jam
