Default Newbie Help

Just moved into our new flat yesterday. In our living room there is an isolator box with a long lenght of coxial cable. I rang Virgin today and ordered the lowest BB package.

My plan is too now order a Eurovox and get a cable spilter and connect up the Eurovox and follow the tutorials.

Will the Eurovox definitely work? Im scared of spening near to £100 on it and then it not working and having the hassle of selling it again.

I see the Eurovox 1k are cheaper on the manufacturers webpage but I presume these have no pre-installed firmware. Is getting the latest firmware hard and then finding keys as I have no experience in this matter. How is it that sometimes they auto-update?

Thanks for taking time out to answer.

hey cloudstrife.if you've got the basic vm package,as long as you've got a live cable feed then a eurovox will work.i'm also new to the game and was worried/sceptical but i got 1 n it works a treat and haven,t looked back (seems too good to be true i know).as for the updating issue,i was told that my box updates automatically but that remains to be seen but fingers x,d!

Thanks for the reply. You cant just call out an engineer and tell him your eurovox isnt working.

So just to make sure, getting broadband=live cable feed.

Did you buy a box with firmware pre-installed?

Thanks

Yes if you get broadband you have a live feed to your property , As for obtaining a box you need to buy from a reputable dealer as there are loads of clones flooding the market at present,
We have a reputable member on this forum known as lincsat he would only sale you the real McCoy.

Lincsat's Nick-nacks (Shop)

You Will need a null modem cable and a f-coax adaptor , ask lincsat at point of purchase and he could supply these aswell.

You may not have to subscribe to vm for any package.

I have put 2 boxes in for 2 people in last few months, and they don't subscribe to any package, I don't know why but VM never seem to kill the feed, I put a box in for an old couple last week, I asked them if they had a cable in thier living room before I took it over and they said that they used to have a package with VM about 5 years ago and cancelled it cos it was too dear, anyhow I took a box round and plugged it all in and live feed still on after 5 years, so they got a box now and don't pay rock all for recieving the channels.
So unless you want bb then go for bb service then get a splitter and the box will work.
Its a matter of choice on which box you go for but like g80878 said, there are that many clones about with Eurovoxes that it's dodgy but Yea Lincsat is the reliable scource to get one, I have every box going and in my opinion the Kryptview box is the best box going, also it's unlikly anyone will sell a box flashed with the FW, but yer just need a null modem cable and then locate the FW from download section and then flash the box yerself then yer up and running, if yer get stuck on flashing then just ask for help and some one will put you in the right direction.
As Earthworm stated about auto updating, yes all boxes with correct fw will auto update the key rolls, BUT about every 6 months VM snd some code to stop ALL boxes fom auto updating, but someone has the new FW out to reflash them in a matter of days.
