Hi guys,
My question is this: Can VM detect the fact that I am using DVB-C to view their programs? I know that my Eurovox does not do 'talk-back' and i still have my original VM box plugged in for talk back purposes. My current setup is: 1st splitter Eurovox PVR + VM Box 2nd splitter (amplified) Cable modem + DVB-C (Twinhan Cab CI with softcam vplug) if it matters, i am using xp sp3 and dvbdream (Also, just in case anyone accuses me of simply leaching, i do pay for a full, almost complete package with VM for phone, tv, and BB. ) |

I believe there was a lot of talk about this when dbox's were first muted. They don't have talkback and so wouldn't actively feed information back but i "BELIEVE" the final conclusion was that if an engineer came to your local box and checked he could determine that there was a connection in there. they wouldn't know if it was a official box or if you were just plugging the cable into your tv but they would see a signal as being used. I am not sure how true it was but it makes sense that they would see a grounding. But as you have a subbed box you should be safer? The other issue is that modifying a box owned by a cable company is bad and amounts to theft... and gives police power of entry there and then...
THIS IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN TOLD AND IS ONLY MY OPINION!!! |

I think that Inevitabe1 was really asking if a DVB-C card in his PC could be detected by the cable company...
Just to clarify from a legal point of view though.. Modifying a box isn't "Theft" technically it's "Criminal Damage" as you don't own the box, It belongs to the cable company and they don't give there permission to start opening the case and soldering things inside, they could see it as damage to there property.. Mort.. |

Hi guys, thanks for your replies.
I realise that an engineer looking at noise in the line could possibly see 4 pieces of equipment in use, creating a lot of noise for a line which should only have tv and BB. I presume that this is a risk most of us take with additional equipment... I know that leaving the VM box in allows VM to get the talk-back they expect from my line. But I was worried that my DVB-C would cause issues. Out of interest, is there any way to make my setup more 'secure'? |
