Its when they start replacing them all with DOCSIS 3 devices you should start worrying. My sub went down 2 days ago and the earliest the tech could come was today, he replaced my old surfboard modem which hasn't let me down in 8 years with a 256 I dont think there is any real weighting behind the reasoning for it as I would imagine if they where going to replace modems to "update them" then they would have got hold cheap DOCSIS 3 devices and changed them all for them. As it stands I wouldn't count this as anything to worry about just make sure your stealth settings are up to scratch!
