Question Max V Channel Problem.

Hi all, I wonder if anyone here can point me in the right direction as this problem is driving me nuts.I've searched the forum here and other forums but can't find a solution.
After a channel update, quite a few channels became pixellated and un watchable.
I modified their frequencies as per Flashmans instructions HERE
and everything worked a treat
However the next day, all the channels were pixellated and unwatchable.
Whichever channel I tried, I would get a terrible picture for about ten seconds, then a 'No Signal' message then the bad pic again for ten seconds or so, then the 'No Signal' message again, and so on.
I've removed my splitter and tried a power scan ( got less channels), re- flashed the firmware and installed different CDF files all to no avail.
Strangely, if I try to modify the frequency in the channel editor the signal bar shows a green 75%-80% signal and then drops to a red 10%-15% signal after a few seconds, and then this repeats over and over.
This ties in with the lousy picture and then 'No Signal' message.
At the moment I've no watchable channels.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

when on a bad channel press the remotes info button twice and what signal strength and quality do you get and is it steady (try a couple of channels)

OK, Beeb 1. (435.000 Mhz)
When I press the info button twice I get a signal strength of around 80%.
If I try to modify the 435.000 frequency in the Channel Editor, the signal strength showing there, is the same (around 80%), but after a few second it drops to 5%-20%, then returns to 80% after a few seconds.
I'm aware that 80% is too high, so I tried a variable attenuator but it made no difference at all.

adjusting frequency should only be done if you are having problems on only the odd one not when on all.

80% is about where you want to be but if the signal is suddenly changing you could have a bad connection somewhere (double check all connections and connect directly to feed removing splitters etc.) or you could have a dicky tuner

which firmware have you got on the box

I tried removing the splitter. No joy.
The firmware if I remember correctly is 30 11 08.

there is a 5/12/08 firmware but this is the same as 30/11/08 except for autosort feature
there is also the 5/12/08 for boxes with the 8% problem
you could try these or even the old april firmware (you would have to input codes manually) just to check if the problem persists, if it does then I would say one of your connections is bad or the tuner is faulty.

It's looking that way as I've already tried the other firmware, except for the '8% Problem' release.
I'll check my coax connections tomorrow.
Maybe I'll get lucky. If not it's open the box time.

I don't have one as I just pay for broadband, which is still fine.

Well I checked all the connections and everything looked OK.
Just to be on the safe side I removed the coax plugs, stripped the cable back and refitted the plugs.
Surprise surprise, I'm back up and running.
I've no idea why but I'm not complaining.
The only problem I have now is the Spy Spots channels only have 8% signal strength and the D***overy channels are missing
Thanks to smoggy and telecom69 for troubleshooting...
