Hello everyone,
I recently bought an above box and am very pleased with evrything, especially since the new HD channels have become available. I want to now add the HDD function to it. Is it a case of me buying a external hard drive and connecting it via usb. (is any external HD ok, or are there special ones) Than you for any help given. Andy |

I'm not sure whether you will need one with it's own power supply though.... Some HDDs draw their power from the USB slot... I dunno if the ex7000 will allow this... Someone else should be able to confirm that for you... but I should think it will be ok... The USB standards specify a certain amperage should be drawable from the port...

The EX7000 allows for you to add an external HDD. I dont know if you have to use a specific brand though?

I just found this mate...
Quote:
A USB port must provide 100ma at 5v... but it can provide up to 500ma at 5v... so if possible check what the power drain is on the HDD that you want to buy and before you buy it, check the returns policy... |

Go for a USB2 caddy with it's own PSU to be safe, definitely avoid the caddies that have 2 USB connectors as they require both connecting to draw enough power.

I've tried a few sticks and most are not fast enough for HD, especially the bigger ones - The Dane-elec 16GB from 7Dayshop does work OK
