Default Another Pace 4001.. Force Update?

Ok, I know this has been asked before and I have tried quite a few of the methods discussed on the forums.

I have a 4001 pace box, its still on the old software, with the blue guide. I have tried numerous times to let it update on its own.

It's an older box out of all the revisions of 4001, being rev 1a, my other being 2a and I noted holding the standby button in does not reboot the box as it would on my others.

Signal levels in EM appear to be fine, not using any splitters. Any ideas folks?

Has the box had a no update mod done ?

This was popular in the early days of the hack.

Where would I locate the no-update mod on a 4001? As far as I could tell the box had not been modded before, I had to cut talkback myself, so seems unlikely, but ill check if you can tell me where I might find it?

Strange update for you anyways, when I try to force the update (booting holding services) it goes to tune on the little display, but the TV goes green! It's been like this for most of today with no change, when I enter the EM, i set the freq, it finds netid and seems fine, but it says in the the downstream frequency page that its different to the frequency i set on page 1.

It's deffinately still on 3.1 software, checked and checked several times now, even booted to it, but can't get any channels.

I have tried 739 and 755 (both nottingham frequencies) and since its a pure box and im in pure I cannot see why it won't update.

The caps all look fine, so I don't think they are the issue.

I note this 4001 is hardware rev1a, my other (spares) box (remodulator fail) is rev2a, but it has a 2 chip simm whereas this one has a 4 chip simm, would it be worth swapping these over, or are they likely incompatible.

Sorry for all the questions, appreciate the help so far!

If there is anything I could do to make one good box from these two problem ones it would make my day, all and any suggestions are welcome

Hi

Dont know what your problem is but dont swap the simms, if you do you will have to leave the 4 chip simm in the other box it wont work once you take simm out and put the 2 simm back, so you coud end up with both boxes buggered. At least thats the case with the 1000`s so would think same for 4001.

Regards

Well the box the 4 chip simm is from doesn't work anyway, (remodulator fail - in eng menu + no signal at all showing in em)

So, I wouldn't mind never being able to use that one again, but is it likely to solve the issue with the update etc?

Also, does anything else I've mentioned stand out as odd?

I have tried forcing the box to update several times, with any method mentioned on here for pace boxes, and I have even tried just hard resetting the box, setting freq + letting it get netid, then booting up and leaving it to display the ntl screen "we are currently updating your service.. etc" with tune on the display. and leaving it that way to update, still no luck, trying the services method (hold in on boot-up) again today and the tvs been on that green screen (no text) with tune on the display for the box.

Getting a bit fed up of these boxes now, its odd that the other box (box 3) is still working ok, yet box 1 and 2 (all 3 are 4001's) are looking like scrap.

Now i have checked in the EM and it does find the netid, 00008, as it should, rather than ***** as it would if stuck in tune,

hi morri ....... i would recomend swapping the tuners and trying them before you swap the simms ............. if that dont work i would also recomend writing a card for the box on the old software putting it on feed for a few days the old pace boxes can be really fussy about taking updates untill the box is nice and warm ............ make sure you are not using a splitt cable feed with these old boxes use direct feed from your wall as they are funny about taking updates on a low signal even if it is only slightly lower than usuall

Cheers matey, i'll give that a try, I now have 3 tuners to test (thanks to the someone who sent a spare for me!) in the box, so I'll do that first, then the simms.

I know i said the 4 chip simm was from my previous box, but i got that the wrong way round, the box I had before was the 2 chip simm, the box i got to replace (the one that wont update) is the 4 chip simm.

Guessing the 2 chip simm won't work in this box? I have two tuners from 4001 hardware rev2a, and 1 tuner from 4001 rev1a, they are all similar but slightly different, will try all!

Thanks again so far, does anyone have any ideas yet about the other box (remodulator fail - shown in the Eng Menu event logs)

Also, you said write a card for the old software, would the card image differ from the current ones? If so where could i find one appropriate for use with the old software. I had been trying to update the box with no card in, due to recommendations in a previous thread - should I not do this, and instead write/update card and try that way?

If its any help, the card that this box came with is a rom7, so I'll just use a spare rom11 I have, since I've never played with rom7's.

Out of three 4001's only one is working, so *shrug* Here's hoping!
