hi all
first post here,i've been reading the forums for quite a while now and only just got round to registering i'd post more now but i'm just setting of to work ![]() my friend has a eurovox 1000 which was working fine up untill a few days ago, the picture started to become jumpy before no signal at all, after rescanning it only picked up about 10 channels which wouldn't show on screen. i have scanned the box at my house and it has picked up all the channels again, we reconected the box at there house and the channels all show as being there and often work for a minute or two before the no or bad signal message appears the picture comes and goes intermittently. the signal level is around 87/88 and the epg works all the time making my think that the cable still has feed, i have tried adding a couple of splitters to see if theres any difference but it was still the same. would it be worth trying a signal booster of some kind and with the sports channel being on and off mean that the cable is still live? as i would have thought if the supply had been disconnected there would be nothing at all showing. thanks for any help dan |

Hi and welcome to TechWatch
it sounds like your signal could be too strong, try adjusting it downwards with a variable attenuator (first try putting the cable feed in the loop out and see what happens) |

Hi smoggy
Thanks for the quick response i have done what you said and the picture is staying on a lot longer now with it only freezing or cutting out for a few seconds every minute or so but seems to get better the longer the box is on,also the signal level has gone down to around 78 now. so with the results of what i've done would that suggest that it is the signal that is too strong ? also is there an ideal strength for the signal, i read on here somewhere that adding a splitter is the same as having an -3db atenuator so maybe its worth me trying that again but using the port out. ps whats the difference between using the loop out and the normal input. Thanks again Danny |

if the picture has improved it is suggesting your signal is too strong but by using the loop out its probably dropping the signal too much, the best bet would be to go back to rf in and get a 0 to 20 variable attenuator which will allow you to fine tune the signal strength, the optimum strength appears to be around 80%

Thanks again smoggy
![]() its good to now know that is just a case of fine tuning the power level, i've been looking online and have found this variable attenuator i can't post a link yet but if you paste VHF/UHF Variable Attenuator into the search on screwfix thats the one i'm looking at would this be ok and if its not upto the job would have you an alternative you could recommend cheers Danny |

cheers smoggy
i dont fancy waiting for ebay sellers and postage etc so i'm going to get a few different sat/cable atenuators from screwfix - 2 ,6 and 10 db and give them a try and see if it improves. also i'm trying to find stbm so i can backup and organize the channel list for my 7000hd, but so far haven't found a download anywhere for it |

update, in the end i bought a few different atenuators and put them in i have now got around -22 db on the coax yet i'm still having a problem with the picture going every couple of minutes.
the signal level is jumping between 75 and 81 constantly which is when i get the bad no signal sign. any ideas or do i just need another atenuator
