Hey guys, Im thinking of upgrading my amp to the ONKYO 607. This would allow me to ditch my optical cable/s and simply use HDMI for both video and sound. But I know on sky HD you still have to use a fibre optic cable to get digital sound 5.1 etc. Can the eurovox 700 hd though give me digital sound through only the hdmi cable though that would cut out the need for me to use the optical cable!?? Any ideas?

I've just ordered one of these myself so cannot be certain, but according to post #17 in the thread below, you can indeed pickup sound via the HDMI output.

Cool. Just hope the sound that is picked up CAN be changed to 5.1 dolby digital through HDMI.. as ESPN HD live premiership broadcast in glorious 5.1!

I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be in 5.1, but you may be best to check the settings menu for audio, perhaps it can be set there, and in turn might need changing.

I'll have my box tomorrow so if you are still stuck, I'll see what I can do.

You tried it yet mate? Any joy with 5.1 through ONLY the hdmi cable?
