Default Virgin Media area??

Hi, i am currently moving house and the house that I am moving into according to the Virgin website is not a fibre optic area. Outside the new house is all the tell tail signs of it being a cable area with the green boxes next to the road and the small black boxes on the path outside each house.

Does anyone no why i cant get cable broadband and digital cable tv if from what i can see it has been installed in the street??

When I rang them up a lady who didnt seem to know much just kept saying that it is a cable area but couldnt offer me any of the cable services and that they are working on it but couldnt give me any indication when they will be able to offer it to me. Do they have to put different cables in??

Any info would be much appreciated

there might be cable going into the propperty but doesnt mean its digital.
it could be the old anilog wires.
you can still use your internet and if you have a eurovox or something like that you can do a scan and pick up i think its 192 channels there abouts.
you can ask vm if they intend to uprade in that area if not when it goes digital you will lose everything

Get the coax cable and touch the end with your tongue, if you get a tingle, it's live. If you want to play it safe, connect the feed to your TV and tune it in. If it's live, you will receive channels 1-5.

Many thanks for all the replies, there are no actual cables going into the house, there just the little black box on the path outside the house which either says CATV or Diamond Cable. This tells me that cable has been installed in the area but its not fiber optic from what they tell me over the phone??

Looking at some of your comments does this mean it will just be analogue that they have installed in the street??

Appreciate all the info.

Fibre optic runs through your phone line if i'm not mistaken. It is for people who don't live in a cabled area.

In non cable areas virmin still offer a broadband service like tiscali , talk talk etc , Still would need a BT line or local equivalent and they would supply you an ADSL modem and offer you a freeview box.
