Some of you may have already ready about my DM800 HD clone that I posted about in Dreambox DM800 HD (clones)

This thread is just to reduce clutter in that post. It was purchased last week for £215 including delivery via DHL Express from web address removed - if they want to advertise they can pay the going rate card for the site - A/S

The box came with second stage bootloader release 72, and pre-loaded with Gemini image. I have been using it all weekend, the only thing I needed to do was... install CCcam, and CCcamInfo. Then I configured some CCcam servers, and been happily watching TV ever since

Any questions just ask away.

I have a dm 800 on its way from china, hopefully. I got a message to say that the receiver was pre-loaded with gemini 4.4,

"Our dm800hd pvrs pre-loaded the Gemini 4.4, but this software is unlocked, not official, please do not update the gemini 4.4 which will make box blocked."

Is this usual?

what they are telling you is that if you try and put any newer images on your machine then the receiver will stop working. Like in post 1, that have sent the machine with second stage loader 72, but due to fact that they cannot clone the flash chip you cannot put any images with a bootloader higher than 72. Some image makers have release newer images but with clone safe older bootloaders which are ealier versions. Nabilo have done this.

It simply means you have baught a cloned box, don't install genuine dreambox updates, otherwise it will brick your box. The firmware you will need to use when updating will be the clone-safe versions.

I've ordered one too on Sunday from "Ronald". Received my DHL tracking number this morning but it's not yet valid...

How long does delivery take once they leave the warehouse in HK/China?

If it was what you consider cheap then it will only have the 72, no use for new images. Clones are just what you get, you pay less than the genuine box, but in the end you get a lot less also, you are stuck with the old bootloader and are limited to the older images, which is not a good thing.

All the latest images are patched for the clones. Also the latest clones comes with bootloader 75.

The one thing to remember is that the tuners are a tad weak with these, so you may have to use an inline amplifier to increase the strength of the signal.

Funny thing is that the original 800 I have has no fan on the chip but all the clones do.
