The first person in the country to be prosecuted for using sophisticated technology to illegally access SLY channels has been jailed for four months.He not only sold unauthorised decoder boxes but also charged his customers a monthly subscription fee of 15 pounds which if not paid then they would be cut off. An undercover agent saw the man running a stall at a Manchester Computer fair on which he had a TV showing a football match being decoded using a server via the Internet which was part of a card sharing network.The Investigator arranged to visit the offenders home to purchase a set top box and 3 months subscription whilst undercover Investigations continued. On June18th officials from FACT (Federation Against Copyright Theft) raided the offenders home and seized four decoder boxes,a computer and various emails from his customers. It was estimated that he had made up to 5000 pounds in sales and subscriptions.Even though he was not at the top of the Illegal activity, because of the seriousness of the offence then a custodial sentence was deemed neccessary
