I have been reading up for about a month on how to modify the sammy box for educational purposes, so thought I would put everything together in a thread for anybody else who is struggling to get their head around it.
A sort of idiots guide written by an idiot. i have not tried and tested this. I am putting the info together before i start to make sure i have everything right. None of this work is my own and a big thanks to Blakey 8. If there are any mistakes can peeps let me know and i will make amendments as there are bound to be loads!! Firstly. Hardware Needed Samsung 2110c cable box - that is no longer used or wanted by virgin the originally supplied card (OSC) - that is paired to the box i.e. it has not been scrambled by virgin An unlooper - I bought the powersync because it was the only i seen A card programmer - I bought the infinity phoenix A fun card - this allows you to trick your box into unlocking all the channels A serial to USB converter if your pc doesnt have a serial port. T10 torx screwdriver Software Needed (look in the downloads section) Nagra Edit 4.1 - (allows you to read the details from your OSC) Infinity USB (came with the infinity card reader) A new image to flash to your OSC - must be the correct type i.e. ex Telewest or NTL Sidewinder 1.2 (for the unlooper) The mod is done in two parts, hardware and software. Hardware This can be done first if your waiting for bits you have ordered to arrive. Remove the card You need to disable talkback, this is the box sending information to Virgin. To do this you need to open the box up, remove the board and remove two capacitors, c1728 and c1729, and the resistors, r1695 and r1696. You can do this by either de-soldering them or simply being careful with a small screwdriver and prising them off. Put your box back together Then you need to reset the net ID. do this by holding left, right, standby and OK, plug in the power and release when you see LD:06 on the LCD screen. Thats the hardware side done. Software This is where it gets tricky. You need to get various bits of information from your OSC but in order to do so you need to unlock it using an unlooper. This then allows you to use a piece of software called negraedit to read the details off your card which you then use to program the Fun Card. This is then used to hack the box before putting a different image (bit of software) on you OSC to make it a MOSC (the M standing for modified). You need to find the: BK (specific to the box and why you need the originally supplied card) IRD Net ID Firstly the OSC will be locked so you need to use the unlooper to unlock it. Make sure you are using the correct COM port! I spent half an hour trying to get my phoenix card reader to work before i realised. In the start menu right click on my computer and click on properties. Then go to Hardware then device manager, and there should be an option for ports. select your com port or usb to serial. and look in the properties to change it. Select the lowest one possible as the phoenix card reader only goes upto COM9. Will add the rest when my unlooper arrives. |

You wont find the net ID within the OSC mate , You would need to enter the EM to see what it is , if your lucky it would be from your area , if not you would need to reset the box so the net ID is displayed 09999 , Then you need to use the funcard trick to set the net ID for your location.

Thanks for the Guide but how do you cut talkbalk i looked in the Novice Angel Guide but that's for other pace models. How do you do it for 2110C?
What are the chances of getting caught by Virgin Media using a subscribed box? & using funcard? Even if you cut talkbalk is there a change of getting caught? I'm sorry if am asking stupid questions lol

Should you proceed down this highly un-recommend route VM would get suspicious of why your box isn't phoning home anymore , and pay you a visit to read the log on your box and would see what you have been watching. |

You could go for a talkback cutter that screws on the back (50 - 58db upstream/noise blocker) but still, I wouldnt do it on a subbed box as you will have to still unloop your card: it will eventually reloop but is never the same again.
Instead of buying a 2110c: look for a pace box of some kind (especially the 4001 / 4010 as they can be JTAGged if needed) or look for the Samsung 2100. - Again, can be JTAGged. Look either on eBay (only go for ones with cards). grab one from a local car boot sale for a couple of quid, or get a totally different kind of boxes like Nokia DVB2, eurovox or kryptview - there are traders who may sell you an old box for about £50 or a HD eurovox/kryptview for about £85 - 100 Hope it helps |

Yes, most of the time a hard reset it needed and often the fun card trick too. (unless you get the activate PIN message, then just go into the EM and do it straight away) If you dont get that message which is very unlikely you will; just turn it off at the wall, open the box up and pull the red jumper by the battery or with these boxes pull the battery out itself and the jumper then back in again! If your lucky, you will be able to enter the PIN in the engineers menu yourself, if not you will need to try the fun card trick to do it! Just use the guide that's stickied in this section |

Hi all, I did this hack on a pace box years ago...looks like a few things have changed, so i'm basically a newbie!
I've managed to procure a Samsung 2110C, which I don't think was ever plugged in as the previous owner was sent it, never used it, and it was never picked up from Virigin. Have just switched it on and get the following "Your Digital TV service will start shortly." How should I proceed? Thanks |
