Ive read about the audio problems and I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with these problems and it seems to be an easy fix.
![]() For some reason I have lost Sly Sports News, it said channel unavailable when I first plugged my box in after moving house...SSN was there already from the old house and I have moved literally 5 minutes up the road. I re-scanned the box and the channel just disappeared all together, tried fast and long scans, still nothing. Bought the box to a friends house(local) and scanned it, SSN returns, when I get the box home it says channel unavailable. This has happened at the same time I noticed the audio problems with the movie channels. Had a quick look around and found the solution to the audio problems, but I dont see this problem anywhere. Hopefully someone can help. Its probably the channel I watch most of all. Thanks |

hi,,
sounds like a feed problem to me,,, check the box on the wall both inside and out and remove anything that is foreign ie splitters or resistor boxes. they cut down the signal leading to channel loss and erratic behaviour... yours sounds like a classic old fitting problem... replace any removed connections with new straight through connectors easily found on ebay or at wilkinson/b and q ! let us know how you get on so this helps others. regards dave |

Get rid of Sportster and use a proper UK image like Commando 11.3, can't guarantee you will get your SSN transponder back, but it will cure some of the other problems

hey scooby, did virmin add any resistors or noice canceliing fittings anywhere on the cable? possibly hidden?
there idea is to stick a 10 db noise cancelling thing on there just to annoy us! anyway remove everything that shouldnt be there... but id assume if your broadband is slow then you should contact virmin and tell them that they might have got a connection dodgy somewhere.... when i contact tech support i dont use the phone i use the newsgroups virginmedia.support.broadband.cable they will arrange a techie visit and they can even check your feed/line from their offices. its the best way to contact virmin tech support! heres an example of a newsgroup question: Ok like i've said previously, i have had slow speeds for a long time. The UBR in the past has had bandwidth issues but the fixes only made my connection a bit better. It still drops to about 6,7 or 8mb. I just want advice on what i can do. I don't want to switch provider because i don't like BT lines and had problems with them in the past. Could the problem be due to VM's hardware not supporting the bandwidth?. I'm getting quick speeds tonight so i know it's possible that i can get them. I live in the PR9 area. I was thinking if any of the cabinets could be at fault?. The one that we have been connected to seems to be fine, the engineer said. The thing is, someone on a forum said that his was bad due to a cabinet they were not even connected to. It makes me wonder if it could be that. Everything else has been checked on my end. If it is VM's hardware that could be causing my problems could you guys find out?. Is it even capable of all the new 10mb, 20mb and 50mbs?. I'm not on Docsis 3.0 yet. Could this be the problem and could you see when i can move over to it?. and virmins answer : Hi Darren, We're sorry that you have having problems with your connection speed. I have checked the network and am unable to find a cause for this, sadly I am unable to complete my tests though as your modem appears to be switched off. Can you post again when you have switched it back on and include the speed your able to achieve downloading two files simultaneously from our gamefiles site for a couple of minutes and also a trace to the BBC website. -- Kind Regards Lee Grant Virgin Media Technical Support http://status2.virginmedia.com/ Please bottom-post when responding to aid viewing for all readers, thank you. to access the newsgroups open outlook express and choose accounts,,, set up a new one and add news.virginmedia.com as server...note: it doesnt need account details! then download list of newsgroups and add the above group then when the messages are in you can view them or post a question which they usually answer very fast and are very helpful.. one thing to note im not a techie so google for the settings if you can tget them to work! its easy if you use logic.. also please note the newsgroups are full of other useful stuff too so make good use of it... do a search for your fav subject in the list of newsgroups you might be suprised at how many ppl are discussing it in there! regards dave |

cheers dave, very helpful mate
a couple of questions if i may... 1, should i be checking inside the boxes then? the brown box outside and the white box inside? 2, do i have to use outlook express to access the newsgroup? Ive never used it and never liked it. Could I not just phone them up with this? btw, my internet is fine, but all too often it lags, very frequently infact, and the browser can crash to at times *EDIT - i mean its not like a constant slow connection, more of a lag spike every few minutes Last edited by Sc00by; 05-09-09 at 01:42 PM. |

I love the image, a million miles away from the blade quad ive been putting up with for the last 10 months, freezing and losing sound every 5 minutes this hasnt frozen once, i love it, not worth the hassle for me to have to learn how to make that commando image not FTA etc I cant see the image being the problem here, as ive said ive took the box to a mates house just up the road and re-scanned and i get all channels oh...i think ive lost one of the paramount channels too...comedy central, not sure which one, there was 3 of them before, now theres only 2 |

ok, ive got the cover off the white box just inside the house
it has a silver block inside, with literally the line in from outside, then the line out for the feed should i remove the block? Is this the noise canceller? should i remove it and connect the wires together? |
