Default Eurovox Signal Issue (Particularly Sky Sports)

Guys,

I recently purchased a eurovox5100 with new firmware loaded from lincsat.

Generally it works well but occasionally I get major interference and blocky pictures, for some reasons this seems to be isolated mainly to the sky sports channels.

I have tried rescanning but with no luck, also tried the signal booster. The signal strength hovers at around 85% so I dont think there is an issue there.

Does anyone have any experience of this?

Is it possible my signal is too strong? I have purchased a variable attenuator to test it but I am not really sure where to connect it or how to use it in order adjust the signal!

If anyone could talk me through where to connect it and how to adjust the signal then that would be much appreciated!

Connect the attenuator between the feed and the box, anywhere will do afaik, check signal levels after fitting the attentuator.

Remember your signal strength is not the only factor here, signal quality is important too.

It's likely that your signal quality is dropping below 75% if you are getting breakup, and since you mentioned signal strength being over 80% and I don't see that being the cause.

My signal quality is 85-92% no breakups, no pixelation, just smooth sailing. Also, if you need know, my signal strength is 97%.

If I connect the attenuator into the RF sockect of my eurovox and then connect the cable feed into the attenuator does that sound correct?

On most channels both my signal level and quality are the same, I have read anything around the 80s should work fine but for reason I seem to be having issues

Connecting it that way is fine..
Set it at the lowest, and keep tweaking till you see an improvement.

If its noise causing signal quality problems, try moving your feed cables and runs of cables away from power sockets and avoid running longs feeds parallel with mains power cables (like, dont have your feed cable running along the wall parallel with a mains extension cable, if you have one) Also, make sure you havent got sharp kinks in feed cable where it goes around walls/corners.. And if you have feed cable running under carpet next to skirting, make sure gripper rods havnt punctured the cable..

Thanks for the reply I will have a look at the cable to make sure there arent any kinks etc.

When you 'set it at the lowest and keep tweaking it' how would I do that?

Cheers mate I'll have a go.

Also the 3 days I have had this box my signal issues have surfaced at the same time on all three days, about 5 o clock for 2-3 hours.

Same time every day, hmmm, perhaps somebody in your street has got some dodgey cabling and a juice hungry device nearby they crank on the same time every day, they might be sending loads of noise up their feed back to the cabinet ( like, their cable feed wrapped several times around their kitchen cooker, lol ).. Just a possibility.. If you havnt got an Isolator & Reverse Path Noise Blocker then getting these may help, but if neither does then no matter, but it's still a good idea to have one or both on your feed, especially the Isolator.. (Virgin should really put an Isolator on the end of everybodies feed during an install, but they don't, they're only a few quid each)
