Default V box and the internet.? smt 2110c

hi All I am looking for some knowledge . my dad got a v+ box smt 2110c chipped now that works fine . were i need your advice is i have the modem for virgin standard one when im putting in the modem through a splitter i cant get past the act2.virginmedia page to activate broadband. but if i connect through the back of the v+box i get an internet connection no problem for llike 20 mins then it dies .

can anyone please point me in the right direction to either get an internet either through the virgin output lan line or how to use the modem to get online . or is this not possible. (i believe anythings possible if you know the right person to help you out.) so i hope someone can help me. any advice i will try when i also connect through the modem it sometimes connects me just locally.
ive even tried to split the signal coming in from the box on the wall into 2 and connect one of them to v box and one to modem without much joy but sometimes i do get a short connection. please please help me out.
or if anyone can point me in the right direction. of how or were to get the mods done to the modem . im keen to learn.

or if im missing some really obvious thing please let me know .
finally were do i find the download area.

Sounds like a bad signal to me, try a new splitter. I would recommend Konig ones as I use them and haven't had a problem with mine so far. By the way, is talkback cut on the box? You shouldn't be connecting to the internet through the STB because if talkback was cut, you wouldn't be able to.
