One minute while I refer back to Samsung 2110c's.
I have a few Sammy 2110c boxes here and am looking at one as I write this..

To the left of the green mainboard is a chip named "ATMEL... 24C1024W" (component U802).
If this is 4 times the size of the 4 256s in the SA4000, then maybe it just contains the same kind of data but all combined into 1 chip???

It would be nice to get my hands on a dump of this... I would be willing to search through the whole read to find the IRD and BK - the IRD and BK desired would be needed to find the location of it on the dump so I would need those too but it would be nice to replace these doorstops with real ones =)

EDIT:: Just adding, if I could dump my chips, I would but at this moment I can't. If I do find the desired IRD key on a dump, I would check the locations on my own boxes when I get a chip proggy.

i'm pretty sure thats been tried on the sammy's.

what i am interested in is if the 8300 writes anything into a chip if placed in location u902. its the same size as a 256/512/1024.

im thinking..... why is there no chip there? why would a board be built to take a chip but then not be used?

why does the 4000 write the bk and ird into u50 from the flash? it is 'ease of getting'? does this type of memory 24c act like ram for the processer or for the encryption process? what type of memory is 24c anyway? i thought it was for semi-permenant features like netid and pin?

on the 8300, is there a missing feature for which we dont need a chip in u902?

one thing is certain, im sticking a chip in there tomorrow and booting up a box. i'll try it on a doorstop first and if any hex is written into it, i'll stick one in a box with known bk

abbs: does the 4000 have to fully boot to get the dump written back into the u50?

I dont own any 8300 or V+s so I cant send you any chips to try, its a nice theory you have and may be the answer to many peoples problems.

Id still like to try it with the sammy and just check the result.

A box like the 8300 is a little high tech and expensive so will probobly need something stupid like a 2048 or 4096 chip to fully dump.

My first guess was the dump being RAM, but usually the RAM is cleared on shutdown.
Processor is probobly the thing under the heatsink and thermal paste.
That doesnt leave many possibilities but something like "ready-boost" on windows may sum it up.
A faster chip than the TSOP that performs better with information that isnt needed while the box is on, just powering up (thats why it's all dumped at once at bootup, not while needed).

i dont think the full space on these chips is used. i think the manufactures use whats available at the time. the sammy doesnt use a meg and the 8300 doesnt use half a meg. if you look at them, theres only a few lines which actually mean anything. (they dont mean anything to me, lol)

Hehe

as I said, I havent got a reader so I havent got a clue whats on them.
I just thought, the old SA4000 had 256, the PACE 4000 of mine has 512 and the sammy has 1mb so it would be understandable if those expensive door stops had 2mb+.

I need a willem =P
I'll order one for the garage tomorrow and use it before they see its here

Just swapped another 1024 chip today and all it changes is the NET ID I dont think it contains the BK or IRD as it works fine in the new box.

In the mean time, ill catch up with the coursework I have left until sunday night to do (again).
I had 7 weeks to do it so cant really say I hadnt got enough time =P
If I finish before midnight ill remove the motherboard from a 2110c and try to find some more chips.

excuse: i had a modded willem to take the 512/1024 with a bit of soldering. well i've broke my modified adapter/breadboard.

i've just bought a socket for them now so when it comes, i'll be permenantly modding the willem with this socket. i'll solder it with kaynar and put a big blob of hot melt glue on it. seems a better perm solution. this is what i've been using.......

Ok, had a look round for some new chips..

Chartman's 512kb chips are £2.99 each + 2 post which works out at £7.98 for 2.

On eBay there are 2 main ones that stand out,
5 pcs ST Micro M24C256 256 Kb I2C EEPROM PIC AVR = £1.50 + 1 post for 5 (not ROHS compliant)

ATMEL 24C512 2-wire Seria EPROM *512KBit* 5 pieces = £6.25 + £4 for 5
