Question U50 Chip broken on SA.4000dvb. BK needed.

Well, quite silly this..
I lifted the U50 (chip the IRD/BK are stored on) from a SA4000dvb attempting to read the BK code (test reading with a TMC pheonix, then if it didnt work, the real chip proggy from Chartman).

I spent at least 45 minutes removing and soldering some leg extensions on to all 8 legs and then when trying to push the legs into the pheonix: a leg snapped off, and the original leg with it.
So now im one leg short and I will need a new chip.

I can get a new chip from somewhere eventually, but can I just program an old SA4000dvb dump (ill try and find one somewhere) and just use that BK and IRD on my card??
in simple terms, is that the only place the box looks to find it's BK and IRD, so I can choose my own?

Hope it's just a matter of buying a new one and programming it with a dump off another box (after changing a few digits on the BK/IRD).

Thanks in advance

i think you've got the gist of it there. i'd say that yeah, this is the only place the ird and bk are. if you knew your bk and ird, you might aswell program them with this just in case. i've got one of these coming my way shortly so i'll experiment with changing them.
the replacement chip you need is a at24c256.

Nice to confirm my theory =)

I have "serial eeprom 24lc256" from the SA4000 guide but the original chip says "ATMEL 412 24C256W" shouldnt be much difference between the two

You think the MAX232CPE chip on the pheonix proggy can be replaced with one of these and used to program the chip??
It looks similar to the one on the elvis they use in the guide so I thought it was worth a try before paying £16+2 post for chartmans chip proggy.

EDIT:: I don't have the BK. It broke before I could get it, and there isn't a card with it

Nope m8, just a TMC pheonix, TMC fun lite and powersync in my collection so far =P

If I have anymore boxes I may get one but hardly worth it just for this one.

If im not mistaken the BK is on the 56pin TSOP on the main board. You cant just put a known one in the u50.

I’ve had this problem b4 when I snapped 4 little legs of the U50 chip and I’ve had the same idea about making your own BK, it won’t work, and you don’t need to do that m8.
If the U50 pads are still intect i.e not damaged you can still save your box, all you’ll have to do is get a new chip and solder it back on power up the box desolder the chip and read it the U50 dump will be in the chip again.
So that should answer your question if the box looks for the BK in U50 only, I think not, the BK and IRD must be stored somewhere else as well as in the U50 otherwise this method will not recover your BK and IRD.
My box is sorted and work just fine m8.
This is where I got my chip from;

Good Luck.

Thanks for that ed.

Now I believe im f***ed =P

Unless I can read and dump that TSOP for the BK...???

I need a willem now =(

EDIT:: AHH, SWEET, SWEET RELIEF.. that chip reprograms itself when turned on *sigh*
i will just tack it in place while it reprograms itself and then remove it to read it..
Thanks again abbs.

Like I said in my previouse post you will need to buy a 512 chip to replace the one you’ve damaged and solder it back on as it is “blank” then power up the box once the box finish powering up turn it off again and open the box de-solder the same chip again, now the new chip is not blank anymore coz it has dump in it that contains your box BK and IRD, you will need a programmer that can read the 512 chip, elvis or willem, you wouldn’t need to read any TSOP coz you will be dealing with little chip 512 (U50).
