Hey Guys,
As some of you will be aware it seems several members are suffering issues with the EPG and not getting descriptions about the program thats being aired. So, several others and I are running an investigation, you're welcome to participate. We have discovered so far, firmware version makes no difference, thanks to djbones for confirming that so far. We are looking at the possibility that the Time zones, GMT settings, Daylight Savings settings etc may be the cause. I ask any member who is able to receive descriptions for the EPG, to please list all GMT, Daylight Savings and GMT usage etc settings, djbones was kind enough to list his: time settings are..... gmt usage on time zone gmt+1 dl save off He has also confirmed, as mentioned above, that firmware revision does not effect descriptions. C'mon chaps, lets get this rollin eh?

I had read elsewhere that parking your box on the 'EPG Service' channel for 15minutes would resolve this issue, but in turn, upon testing, I still have had no luck with descriptions.
Please let me make it clear once more, this is not an issue with the EPG telling us what is 'on' but with the description of said program, that should display when using the EPG. I can also confirm that the EPG does allow recordings and the timer function to change channel at program start does work without issue, this has been tested on March 3 2009 Firmware. EDIT: Also, does anyone happen to know why we cannot open flash.tbn files that contain 'all data' from the box after backing it up? STBM will not open a full 'all data' backup of my box, can anyone tell me how I would go about opening these files - I have a suspicion that we might find something to explain the issue with descriptions, should we be able to open/edit/read these files.

flash.tbn files are the full compiled firmware, you would need to de-compile to read it. Have you tried parking your box on the PVR_EPG channel as used by the D-Box for 7 Day EPG?

The channel is called EPG_Channel on my ex7000, but yes, I have tried parking it there for a while. If by parking you mean leaving it on that channel for a while (20mins+ and several occasions and once for over 3 hours, nothing) This is still purely for the descriptions, the actually program names + times they are showing work fine, its the program description itself that does not show.

I don't get descriptions here, I do have the PVR_EPG channel which carries the 7 Day EPG received on the D-Box - figured it was worth a try
