Default PSP wireless connection problem - Belkin router

Hi - I am trying to connect my son's psp to my wireless network. I have a Belkin F5D6231-4 802.11b Wireless cable router.

I can get the psp to connect when I don't have WEP security on the router but as soon as I put the security back on I start having problems. The psp picks up the wireless network with 100% signal as I have been trying this standing right next to the router! I input the WEP key (I have tried numerous times and it is the correct key!) and then the psp comes up with "connection error - attempt to obtain IP address timed out". If anybody is connecting a psp via a Belkin router and could run through the settings with me I would really appreciate it. I really don't want to leave the security off the router and just wondered if anybody could help.

Thanks

Forgot to mention that I am already successfully running two laptops off this wireless network without any problems.

Try using WPA-PSK encryption. I have connected two desktops, a laptop, my PS3 and a Nintendo Wii to it without any issues.

I didn't think I was able to use WPA encryption on this router - it only has the WEP option under the encryption tab. Can you tell me how I can configure it to use WPA?

Try and do a firmware upgrade, my router is similar to yours but it is the 7231-4 model and that has the WPA-PSK security option on it. A firmware upgrade might give you the option to use a WPA-PSK encryption key .

Now that's another problem I have! When I try to check if there is a new firmware update nothing happens - the computer just hangs. I have tried doing a manual search but cannot find any firmware updates for this router. I have Firmware Version V1.00.000

Are you selecting Ad-Hoc or Access Point on the PSP?

Try selecting Ad-Hoc if you can find that option. Is your PSP on the latest firmware?

I tried to connect selecting Ad-Hoc and the same thing happened. The psp has version 4.05 firmware.
