weird one(can some one explain)

not really a problem guys just more over a question.yesterday asked me could i do his modem so isaid yes done it and got him a working 10 meg mac.changed nic backed to one i was using rebooted pc and connected modem.its a 20 meg macs (been using last 4-5 days)and all it was giving me was ranging reset and then ranging again.no luck.stuck in a few more macs took a while but got back on.

got up this morning tried 20 meg mac to see what happens and hey presto no ranging straight into operational.b4 any1 flames me am grateful i can get on at all but was just curious as to why 20 meg mac back on and working.

Hi steplay29 yes this seems to be the case now are you in a dynamic C&W area by any chance same thing happens to me all the time now i lost a good 20mb mac after 6months of use did all the scanning ect only to find 10 and 2mb macs good enough thou but the 20mb connection was from the time before dynamic configs in my area. Any way started to use the 10mb mac then, and for the sack of it i tried my old 20mb connection again and it worked????

What i did notice is they seem to change the 20mb connections tftip every now and then for some reason and my hacked modem wont seem to be able to pickup on this change and simple goes into the ranging loop error.

If you un-plug the modem for an hour or so and then plug it in allow it to lock even if its for a second the new details should stick and you will get on with the connection with the new tft server remember to change nic mac constantly thou. Go figure i have no idea what causes this. my modem also fails to collect a new lease over a month i think as well.
