Default DVB-C - Help with HD channels

Hi guys! My 1st post, Hope this is in the right section!?!

I have cable hooked up on my pc and ran a search of frequencies that a friend gave me. I have picked up MTV, Living and BBC HD channels but 4HD, NatGeo HD, FX HD, ESPN HD and History HD are not appearing in the channel list.

Do i have to manually scan every frequency to find the channels (will take forever!) or can somebody show me an easier way? I have tried ferquencies such as 707MHz, 715MHz and 723MHz (mentioned in another post but it was for a HD Box).

Any help with this would be appreciated!

Which area are you in, and who is your provider (ex-TW, ex-NTL, etc)? I can give you the freq's for the HD channels in ex-TW Medway tonight when I get home, but hopefully if you tell us where you are someone'll beat me to it.

By the way, welcome to the forums!

You really do need to know the frequencies for your area !

If you've got a dvb-c card though you could probably write a program to grab the NIT stream and decode it for your NetId area. That will give you the frequency location of every SID thats transmitted.

Failing that, then you should be able to make a scan file (it all depends on which software your using). The scan file can be farely simple, just start with one known frequency and go up/down from that in 8Mhz steps until you've got everything between about 100Mhz and 890Mhz. There will probably already be some scan files in the applications directory somewhere to give you an idea of the format. Once you've got the file, just set the thing off scanning and it should try each specified frequency. It will probably take 30-60 mins for a full scan !

Hi guys! thanks for the replies! I live in the Walsall area (west midlands). Im picking up all the channels on the most common frequencies. I just cant find the frequencies for the new HD channels! I understand what you are saying and it is an excellent idea but i wouldnt know where to start with writing a program to search for ferquency locations!

Other than that, i can only think of doing a manual scan form 100MHz to 890Mhz and hope for the best. However, Any other suggestions are welcome before i try that though! lol

EDIT: BTW, thanks for the welcome Stu!

Quite a few of the new HD channels are still in test mode. The EPG placeholder channels are usually blank or have a "coming soon" message.

The actual channels, if you can find them, very often only transmit test material. They also have little or no EPG info and, a lot of the time, the data isn't actually in HD (Living HD seems mostly to be 704 by 576 which is less than the normal BBC channels). The HD channels also seem to be jumping around a lot within the transponder PID structure requiring frequent scans for boxes that dont auto-scan.

Then does the Eurovox EX7000 auto-scan, because if not, am I just damn lucky having not needed to rescan for any of the other HD channels, despite not seeming to have History HD?

Does anyone have the frequency for the History HD channel in pure, Nottingham?
