Default Laptop To TV Via TV-Out Port

I have just been given a laptop which doesn't have a screen. It works perfectly fine when I connect my desktop's LCD screen to it via D-Sub but I cannot get it connected to my TV using an S-Video lead. My TV only has scart ports but I have a scart adapter which has an S-Video port on it. Can anybody help me out?

Thanks.

The combination for my laptop is FN and F12. As for your connection, 9-pin serial won't give you a video signal. You need a 15-pin D-Sub to D-Sub cable to connect to your TV, I used to do this with my computer when I had my 27" LCD TV hooked up lol.

Maybe you need to be able to see the original (VGA) output whilst the TV is connected - to allow the laptop to recognise something is connected to the Video out, and to configure whether it acts as a duplicate or a second screen. It may be necessary to enable and set the Video-out (to PAL) in the BIOS before Windows boots too.

The Scart/S-video adapter should have a switch allowing its use as an input or output adapter.
Edit: don't try forcing the S-video connector into the laptop's PS/2 ports (if it has any).
