Hi everyone, please forgive me if this sounds dumb, I'm not normally stuck at the first hurdle!! I have been reading this forum back and forth for weeks now, and finally took the plunge and thought I would patch my sl65. I checked the chip as per your instructions (its a b1), went out bought r232 cable, but for the life of me I cannot get the pc to see it, and vice versa. Could I have bought the wrong r232 cable??? Could I be doing something in the wrong order?? Do I connect, and then start the pc program, and then stb's r232 update program??? does stb even need to be linked to the tv?
Thank you in advance for your help. Daniel |

What exactly do you mean by the same pin either end? A null modem cable is not wired pin 1 to pin1, pin 2 to pin 2, etc. What is the Maplin part number?

Okay, the cable I bought was a nikkai rs232 nullmodem cable, the chap at maplin said it was correct, but he said that there are two types, a standard rs232 null modem used to connect products to a pc, and a null modem lead used to network pc to pc. He suggested the cable was faulty because I tried on two pc's, he had no more of them to replace it so sold me a usb-serial rs232 cable. Still no connection!! So the question is did I have and do I still have the wrong cable.

Did you load the drivers in for the USB - RS232 cable ?
The converters are known for problems. All you need is a 9 pin female to 9 pin female null modem cable, then make sure the RS232(serial interface is turned on in your computer bios(should be by default unless someone has turned it off). Check in device manager to see if you have a serial port, and if so make sure it is set to com1. |

Well thank-you all for your response, have sorted the connection issue, have now made my own cable, and can definatly say that an rs232 nullmodem cable is different to a nullmodem cable. It only needs 3 wires to connect, send/receive/and com, send and receive swap.!!!!
Successfully now patched, now I need to figure out why are the $ channels still encrypted?? I realise that some would remain locked, only looking at astral 28 and 19. Any thoughts???
