Default Which Splitter?

Hi all,

Are there different types of splitter available? I got one this weekend with a view to splitting my signal between the Dbox and possibly a V+HD box (subject to a seperate post!). But heres the thing...

When I insert the splitter I get nothing at all the either the dbox or the existing cable box. I've been running the dbox alone for 2 years now with no signal problem. When I replace the cable from the incoming to either box with my new cables (bought to use from the splitter), everythings fine. Conclusion; splitter fault? I would have thought if it had been a signal loss problem then there'd at least be pixellation or maybe a few losses, but not a total blackout on both boxes? So is there a certain 'type' of splitter I need?

Ian.

Hi

Which splitter have you got, the one that 5-1000mhz or the one 5-24000mhz.

I had problems with that at a m8`s with the 1st one who bought that from maplins but the one I took him (2nd one) works fine.

Regards

I can't post the link due to my junior status, but I have a Labgear PSA120 at the moment. On it, it says:

2 way active splitter
All ports DC pass
10-2300 MHz +12dB gain.

Should it do the job? (Incidentally I thought 'active' meant you needed to plug it in to some power - evidently not?)

Thanks again,

Ian.

First thing to do is check the obvious things like all connections are tight, connectors are fitted properly and have not worked themselves loose etc. I know alot of people who think their connections are ok but on closer inspection they are not.
Next, make sure it is a splitter you are using and not an attenuator - They both look very similar but they infact reduce your signal.
Next make sure there is not a break in the cable - most of the time it is not visible as the copper wire inside could have broken. Easiest thing to do to rule that out is change the coax cable - its not expensive
