Default Cordless phone for home

I didn't know which board to post this on so sorry in advance if its the wrong one.
I'm praying someone can help me to find a new cordless phone for the house. I bought a Binatone phone a few months ago and it's rubbish!

I need a phone that has a range of about 70m, as i do alot of work in the garden. Granted it's coming up to winter, but i would expect a phone to last atleast a couple of years, or am i just being optimistic?

I was thinking about PAnasonic, although i had a TV from them a few years back and it was rubbish.

Cheers in advance,

PJ

Panasonic KX-TG5633B 5.8GHz Cordless Phone System.

Comes with 3 handsets, extreme range on the 5.8ghz frequency + works brilliantly for what we need at home (roughly 70m range for garden + entire house).

Not entirely sure what its range is suppost to be, but as I say, we use those at mine without a problem, battery life seems pretty damn good too, talk times of over 6 hours, even outside, cannot confirm max talk time as have never used it for more than 6 hours.

I would suggest you look at DECT phones. DECT is now widely accepted as the standard for cordless phone communication and is displacing older technologies 5.8 GHz, 2.4GHz, 900 MHz ... Because it's standard it's cheaper for the manufacturers to make DECT phones than cook up their own proprietary technology. Cordless phone range actually increases as the GHz - MHz number gets smaller. So 1.8 or 1.9 GHz frequencies are better for range than 5.8 GHz. On the other hand 900 MHz while having great range generally uses analog technology that is easily scanned. DECT is encrypted and very secure.

You will generally find that DECT phones from most of the global brands are much the same. Some will have more features than others. For what it's worth I wouldn't buy anything other than a Panasonic phone. Their products are well made and typically have the edge over Uniden, VTech ...

As a suggestion you might want to look at the KX-TG9332T. It's an expandable dual handset job. There are also 4-5-6 versions. It's got some nice text to speech features and more.

Hope this helps.

Cheers

As already mentioned, you might also want to consider twin or multiple handsets, that have an intercom facilty.
So you can request those endless cuppas, from the garden
However, remember to keep the dect base or handset, well away from satellite receivers,as they can cause interference.
