when i record something onto an external hd from ex7000 the recordings appear in lots of 12 min video files. Is it possible to set it it so that the whole video records to just one file?

This question has been asked and answered, there are several options, but off the top of my head, only Windows Movie Maker comes to mind.
Import all the clips and then publish them as a movie, you can also choose to encode it to the bitrate of your choice - such as a lower bitrate if you plan to use it on an ipod video for example, or psp etc.
