Finding any satellite is a good starting point. Next time you do that, make a note of the channels and frequencies they are on, and use kingofsat channel search to find out which sat it was. Once you know which one it was, you'll know which way to move the the dish to get the one you want.

Got my system sorted and it's all up and running. The only thing is, I cannot receive anything past 33 degrees east .
I am on the Wirral nr Liverpool and as mentioned in my original post my scaffold pole is only 5 ft (3ft off the ground) If I extend the pole by another few feet is it likely to make any difference do you think? There are houses in the distance to the east but it's so hard to tell if this is indeed causing the problem.
I'm thinking maybe that as I can receive Eurobird 33 deg then If I can't receive 36 deg at the moment, a few feet ain't gonna make much difference. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

There is absolutely no way anyone can give you a definitive answer without coming to where you are and checking.

A few feet CAN make all the difference, it depends on the cirumstances.

Try one of these, in conjunction with dishpointer:-

Thanks again Robbo - I've actually just got a signal on Eutelsat 36 Deg East but only on 2 transponders, 28 & 30. I spotted the signal on T 30 moving 'in and out' earlier and so raised the dish just a few millimeters which is all I had spare and Transponders 28 & 30 are now steady although quality is only around 55 on my Technomate. This is a good sign I think (?) so will get another length of scaffolding to extend by a few feet. Are the pieces easy enough to join together?

That top picture is a 'double' and would be no good, a couple of 'swivels' are needed. But as martin says, there is movement, but a single u-bolt and clamp round both poles fixes that. I perfer the scaffold clamps because you can overlap the poles thus strengthening the join.

You can also get mast couplers that join two 2inch diameter poles together, end on.
