Smile Eurovox EX5000PVR

Hi

Im pretty new to having this box, and i would like to get a hard drive to insert i need to confirm that i need a IDE Hard Drive is this correct? Also it is connected to Virgin but they seem to move the channels about alot is there anything i can do to keep the channells saved on the box so that when virgin move them it dont keep moving on my box as when they change it i have to re search all channels and this means all my favourites are lost. its a real pain. Ive read you can connect it to a pc and get some sort firmware is it? if this is correct can some one give me step by step guide of what ineed to do etc and what leads and internet site to use etc....

Thanks

For best results get a Seagate or Western Digital IDE HDD and nothing over 120gb.

If you loose some channels, you can do a manual re-scan and this will not bugger up your fav list channels.

You can use the VOXER tool to upload/download/edit/save your channel order to your PC and save them for further use.

I dont use voxer, I just use the firmware that comes for the EX5000 and just upload a CDF, then upload here for two reasons-it might help others and its "backed up" in case you desperately need a CDF file

Yea, you can use the UFL in the firmware if you want too as well.

Thanks for the below i have ordered a Hard drive now, but a little confused on the whole firmware issue, its seems that virgin move the channels to stop illegal boxes. even if i save the channells onto the pc and recconnect the box to the pc for those channels wont they not work still ? as those channels have been saved on the pc from the frequancy that they were transmitted on? which would have then changed hence needing to go back on the pc? Is there not software that i can upload that will automatically find the channells once virgin have moved them? without moving the numbers or place on the actual box. For example On the 1st Month Sky 1 might be channel 235 then once virgin move the frequancy my box displays a notivce advising there is no channel or that im not subscribed to this channel there for i would need to search for channels again, and when i do this i lose all favourites and then Sky one Would then be moved to channel 135. this happens to all channels. As for running a manual search this is something i will try if there is no other way of getting this done automatically?

Sorry if i sound dumb with all of this im pretty new to it all.

Thanks
