Default V+ box query

I recently ended my V+ XL TV package in order to swap the subscription to a basic £30 a month (with virtually no tv channels) at a different address. Virgin basically disconnected my subscription at the old address (as contract had expired) and created a new basic package at the new address (as a result of a new signed contract). However, Virgin forgot to collect my V+ box at the disconnected address.

Now that I have set the scene above, here is the question:

Can I take the V+ box from my old address (where it is lying doing nothing) and swap it with the basic box (called Scientific Atlanta which is hosting the active contract) at the new address?

Would love the features of the V+ box, instead of the basics with the current box.

Any help much appreciated. Cheers.

so u are saying, u wanna mod ur box that was not picked up?

YES you could:
BUT 1 they may remember you had it and bill you later
2 if they sent a kill hit to the card while you still had it on feed then you wont be able to read the card for your bk

if you mean , swop the new box for the old one , then saw as u put on feed the car would be killed

V media definately killed the connection as everything went dead the day before my new account at the new address was set up. In summary, I have a V+ box with a dead connection at one address and a cheap virgin live basic package at the new address.

Did I understand correct? If I simply swap the V+ box (that was disconnected) with the cheap box at the live connection at the new address, it will kill the V+ box (as the V+ box doesn't match the live card in the basic box) even though I have a legitimate subscribed basic service at the new address?

I like the option of getting my V+ box modded. I also heard that the V+ box can be modded to have all of the channels unlocked (as long as you subscribe to the basic package). I'm not techie enough to read instructions for doing this modding myself, but will happily pay for someone to do it for me. Please pm me if anyone offers this service?

Thanks for the advice seamouse. do u do box modding?

Can you be more specific than V+ box, what is the manufacturer and model number as VM have branded several different boxes as V+.

Some boxes are unfortunately doorstops if your card has been hit, I.E: they send a fake BK (box-key) to your card so that it not longer matches the one on the box, these such boxes are the ones that cannot have the bk extracted from the box such as the samsung 2110 or the Scientific Atlanta sa8300 - meaning at best the box would be a freeview box.

Are there any tests I can do on the box to see if it is still alive? I'll check the make of the box when I go back to the property at the weekend. If it provides any clue to whether it is still alive. I simply ended my contract with virgin at that address and as expected all services ceased the day I cancelled. The service then started at the new property with a basic £30 a month (currently 4 months into contract).

I'll check the box make on Saturday, but if it is one of those you mentioned (samsung 2110 or Scientific Atlanta sa8300) does it mean that it is dead and can't be modded?

Thanks for any advice.

V+ is usually the sa 8300 the hd one with recording, others are just V , plug the box in WITHOUT CABLE CONNECTED holding the up and down buttons in till you get diag on display, you should then have Engineers menu on screen, check through pages using right button , look for card info if it says not paired its been hit, if ok then theres a good chance its good.

thanks for this info, the model is explorer sa8300DVB (scientific Atlanta). I got the diag display and there are 12 pages of settings & stats.

Most notable stats are:

card status: no T stream
smartcard version/revision: DNASP011 RevB0D
signal lock status: unlocked

time stamp:

code 87 smart card never paired
code 23 reboot - TDT received
code 18 reboot power cycle
code 170 access notification received

does the above give any clue if the box is still alive and can be modded?

No never paired means its a dead card, box is no good for modding.
