I found similar things happened when I tried to record to a cheap 64gb usb drive, after replacing it with a proper external HDD with external PSU, it records fine without issue, currently have 14 recordings that are 1hour+ and roughly 5 or 6 that are 30mins each.

With the cheap 64gb usb stick, I could only record literally 2 hours of media before I would experience exactly the same symptoms you speak of.

So far so good with the External 500gb HDD though, and thats not even branded! I baught an enternal case (pretty sweet looking too for £9!) and sata 500gb internal drive (Samsung EcoDrive) for less than £45 delivered - bargain!

You could try a branded usb stick (upto 16gb) as several friends of mine use 8gb or 16gb Kingston DataTraveller sticks without a problem, but of course, at the price they cost, why not do as I did and get more than 10 times the space for approx £5-10 more?
