Default what can you play via the USB?

Hey all,

On SV4 boxes, can you play any video files via a USB stick? So for instance, if I have an .avi file, can I stick that on a USB stick and play it on my tv using the SV4 box?

Doesn't have to be .avi btw, just wondered if this was possible?

Many thanks

afaik , you cant play .AVI files , as the box saves in a unique format , and that format is all it will play , could be wrong tho as dont have that box myself
sure i read that somewhere

It won't play AVI's - but the format it uses is not proprietary to the Starview 4. The .ts files it makes are just MPEG-2 files with a specific resolution and MP2 audio.

4EasySoft make a TS Converter which will turn AVI files into .TS files. I tried it myself the other day but so far the output has been a bit glitchy with lots of artefacts and noise in the video. I might be able to fix that by upping the data rate during conversion but i've yet to find time to do that.

To be fair I have limited interest in doing so because I stream most my media from the PC to the 360.
