Got a eurovox which have had for bout 3 and haldf years. Have received letter today from V***** that they are stopping their analogue service on 1st decmber and i have to contact them for suitable date for them to replace analogue box with digital one. Anyone went through this experience with them. What i plan to do is take out my eurovox box and take it out of the way and then leave my old analogue box disconnected along with the remote on the floor so that all the engineer has to do is connect up his new digital box to telly. I then replace his digital one with eurovox again when he leaves. My queries are 1. I have a helluva lot of wires at the back of my telly, splitter with cables etc, nothing illegal with the splitters as they are leading up to my kids rooms where they only get 5 channels, so is this anything to worry bout or will the guy suspect by the set up behind tv(or indeed will he even care) 2. Will this new digital box send back any type of signal to V***** letting them know it is not used, and 3 when they change from analogue to digital is it really as simple as swapping the boxes round or is there more to it than that. Sorry for all the queries but a wee bit nervous bout this and dont want to end up with a fine. My line of thinking is, if I keep my eurovox well out of the way and deny everything there is nothing they can do, or am i worrying bout nothing.Cheers

If there's no boxes in the kids rooms and you make your eurovox (and any non-standard modems) vanish there should be no problem mate.
The virmin box 'talks back' once in a while for updates etc, but it's not illegal not to use it, so you may be best to switch it on every now and then. Besides, you may want to use the 'on demand' services in which case your box will be switched on. I'm not sure about how easy it is to switch from analogue to digital, I assume it's as you have described. I doubt the tech will give a toss about the wires and splitters, as long as there's nothing untoward on view when he visits. Basically mate, you've got it sussed and I don't think you've got anything to worry about.

I always say better safe to be sorry, and would hate to tell you not to worry about the splitter/cables etc only to land you in it, but personally I wouldn't worry too much, if they see no illegal box how can they accuse you without any evidence of it? I'd say do what your gut tell you really mate, but again I wouldn't worry about it personally. ![]() As for the Eurovox, it should continue to work without a problem as AFAIK its digital anyway, and the only reason they would replace your analogue box now and not before is because they are finally switching off the analogue feed, thus rendering the that analogue box useless. I assume thar since you didn't ask to get upgraded to a digital box, they didn't supply it until now *shrugs*. Hope that helps

that is why they are coming out.they are switching off the analogue feed . I now need to know how to set up my old ntl analogue box, it has slightly different connections on the back of it from the eurovox, i.e its 2 of those screw in connections as opposed to the arial push in that eurovox has , and also there are 2 different connection holes on the back, 1 says "to tv/vcr" that is on the left hand side at the back of the box and another on the right says "cable in". Both connection holes have these screw in parts with just the tiny hole for the wire to fit in. Even if i dont set up the box I am going to have to change the ending connections on my existing cables because it will be obvious that the eurovox ones dont fit the analogue box.
The analogue box I have is one of the old ntl boxes although it says "General Instrument" on it as opposed to ntl. Any additional help or advice would be appreciated, thanks or am i just worrying for nothing. |
