Default Crackly sound or no sound on

Hi, all.

I've just been given a Sony Wega Sony KV-32CS75E (Vega from Germany) 32" TV. It's a few years old, but was a good spec in its time.

Problem is, if set it all up, but on the terrestrial channels I don't get any sound (no big deal as Switchover soon), and from my BT Vision box, I get sound but crackly.

I checked all the cables and made sure non of the cables were too close together (interference). I tried all the settings I could find on the TV, but no luck. I then tried the BT Vision box. The closest I've come to making a difference is changing the RF output channel from 36 to other numbers. The crackle went away, but so did the sound. The noise reminds me of when (much) older TV's would slightly loose the tuning, so would have a sort of white noise sound over the normal TV sound.

Does anyone know what I can do about this, or is the TV shagged? It's potentially a great TV, so I don't really want to junk it.

Any help appreciated.

Chris.

What happens if you connect the audio in other ways (via red/white cinch plugs or scart for instance)

I'll try that this morning and let you know.

I now have another problem...dohhhh!

I have an aerial lead that goes from my BT Vision box and also a SCART, theyboth connect to the TV. Wondering if myRF what at fault, I disabled the RF output in the BT Vision settings. It didn't occur to me that if the SCART only option didn't work, I wouldn't be able to 'see' my BT Vision menu any more.

Can anyone help me here, because now I can't even use the BT Vision box....yikes!

Cheers,

Chris.

The only thing I know about BT Vision boxes is that they are a good source of cheap hard drives

Factory reset and one component plugged in at a time, then.

Cheers,

Chris.

If the TV (I don't know that type) has either a PAL I/B/G switch or a menu setting for location/country (usually part of the factory reset process) that will select the correct side-carrier for the audio part of the channel.
Why is the BT box not connected via scart/AV cable? The I/B/G setting doesn't come into play on AV signals, only on RF through the TV's aerial socket.

OK, have read the subsequent post and the TV isn't displaying its scart input either?
Do you know how to select the scart/AV input on the TV? Is the scart cable in the correct sockets on each device ("TV" on the BT box, "AV1" or primary socket on the TV) and the right way round (unusual but some scart cables are directional; some AV/scart cables have a direction switch).

That model probably wasn't made for UK (though it may still be fully multistandard capable) so I could only find English user-manuals (on this site) for similar model numbers - I looked at the manual for a KV-28CS70K which has language/country in the setup menu but don't know if thats the same for the KV-32CS75E.
