Default Softcam or Hardcam with Mediaportal?

Hi Everyone.

I'm looking at building a HTPC that will include two DVB-C cards, one for recordings and want some advice on the best card to use and wether to go down the softcam or hardcam route.

I want to use Mediaportal, at this moment in time, as I like the moving Pictures plugin that will be use for my backed up DVDs.

The OS will either be Vista or Win7, again depending on what is the best combination.

If I go down the softcam route, does the Vplug AU work correctly after a keyroll? And if the CC change the roll method, like last year, is there much support for fixes?

Hopefully not too many questions. Will keep reading while waiting for you good peeps to give me some advice.

Vplug autoupdates ok out of the box but it and MDAPI only installs easy with x86. What OS do you plan to use as MP is in beta for W7

Was hoping to use Win7 but dont mind using Vista if that's what MP needs to work properly.
Has anyone had issues using MP on Win7?

I'm using MP on windows 7 32bit. I'm using the latest version 1.1.0 beta. Overall I've had a couple of problems but it's mostly working fine and the problems I have had have been mostly my fault for setting up bad config. However this is a beta version and there are some niggles with it.

I'm gonna stick with win7 mostly cos I bought the cheap copys when they were on special and MP's latest svn is quite stable. I think they'll have the RC out in time for win7 rtm release and the final out within a month or 2.

Win 7 runs a lot smoother than vista.

On a down note with win7 x64 RC, I've had major issues getting the floppydvb-c card to find channels. The last I'd heard from digital everywhere was that there was an issue with Jmicron's firewire chip driver. I haven't been able to find an updated driver and I don't know if this driver will be updated with the final RTM release.
