There are a number of things that can cause overheating, and a shutdown, in ten minutes, but usually it's a clogged, or broken fan.
Try cleaning it with a vacuum cleaner, the suction sometimes clears it. If not you might need to take it apart, clean it, and check that everything is working. It is possible that faulty memory is causing the problem, but unlikely, if the shop thought this they should have replaced the memory to check it, they should have had some suitable in stock, was this a PC repair Shop? you can access the memory modules quite easily by removing the compartment cover at the bottom of the laptop, if it has 2 modules remove 1 then try it, if it still fails remove the second one and replace the first. What model laptop has she got, and how old is it? |

For memory have a look at RAM Memory Upgrade: Dell, Mac, Apple, HP, Compaq. USB drives, flash cards, SSD at Crucial.com
Ive used them for work & my own computers. Fast & cheap.
